Ray the Raccoon is one of the secondary characters in the Doug's 'N' Rachel's cast and a primary antagonist of Those Nights at Rachel's.

Appearance[]

Ray's exterior casing is rather damaged, although his head seems to be in rather good condition, with only two damage marks on the right side of his snout and left cheek. He appears to have whiskers, which upon close examination are actually additional smaller scratch marks on his snout.

Ray wears a black robber's hat and a pink bandana. His torso, covered in rips, is slender with a white to light grey marking, and he wears a belt and holster. He has a striped raccoon tail which is mostly grey and also ripped in some spots. He also has pink on the insides of his ears.

During gameplay, his eyes will always be a shiny black with white pupils, and in Hard Mode, like the rest of the characters, his pupils go from white to red, and his entire body is covered in a grunge texture.

Behavior[]

Ray will always start in the Raccoon's Hut, and like the others, he can be the first up to the last character to move from their initial position. He has three stages in the same camera, slowly peaking from the right side of the Hut's doorway until he's standing right in the middle of it before ultimately getting stuck on this position for the rest of the night.

He has a rare chance of running to the office when the power is out, which is most likely to happen on the Hard Edition. Regardless, at this point only The Thing is capable of killing the player, as every other character will get stuck on their respective doorways unable to reach the player.

On the Second Night of the DEMO, Ray will sometimes run to the office around 3AM to 5AM, making quick deep steps that get louder the closer he is. Once he comes out his hut through the East Hall, he will run to the right doorway through the Arcade Room 2 and the hallways leading to the office right doorway. Otherwise, he will run to the left doorway through the Dining Area, the South Hall and the long hallway connecting to it. If the player does not close the corresponding door around 7 seconds, Ray will enter the office and jumpscare the player, and end the night. Like The Thing, hiding under the desk will not work on him, as mentioned on the First Night call of the full release.

Trivia[]

  • His design is clearly heavily inspired by Foxy from the original Five Nights at Freddy's game.
    • They are the only animatronics to ever be seen running.
    • They are both severely damaged.
    • They both have their unique solo stage, with a sign to prevent people from getting too close.
  • Ray's position in the Doug's 'N' Rachel's band is unknown, but it is likely that Ray used to act as a stand alone entertainer.
    • It is possible that Ray could play the role of a the villain in Rachel's band, due to him having a bandit like background and an aggressive appearance, also fitting well with a cowboy theme.
  • In comparison to Bane and Doug, Ray is by far the most damaged animatronic.
    • However, he appears to be still performing, and does not seem to have any functional damage as shown by his running speed.
      • It is possible he is a popular character, and so shutting him down would have been a bad move from the company, as they are more concerned about their profit than their customers safety.
  • Ray and Doug are the only characters to not have an E in their name.
  • Ray, Bane, and The Thing, are the only characters to not be featured in a poster.
  • Ray, Doug and Bane, similarly with Rachel and The Thing, are the only ones to share the same jumpscares sounds.
  • The damage through his body could actually be a part of his design, since he appears to be a thief.
  • Whenever he runs to the right doorway, the player can briefly appreciate how his run animation comes to a sudden stop before jumpscaring the player, which is not the case with the left doorway, almost immediately jumpscaring the player before reaching the doorway.
  • It is theorized that there is an extremely unknown rare chance that Ray can run to the office on the first two nights of the full release similarly to Rachel, but due to his low movement chances this never happens and is yet to be confirmed.
  • It was believed that the player had to stare at Ray to prevent him from moving, but this is seemingly not true, as he will still be capable of moving while the player is looking, and either pressing or spamming his camera will not have effect, as his movement is just extremely randomized.
  • Nikson confirmed that there is no real reason as to why Ray is in a damaged state, or even why there's signs to keep customers away from him.

Ray the Raccoon was set to return as a primary antagonist of Those Nights at Rachel's 2 prior to its cancellation.

Appearance[]

Like the others, his design is slightly different from the one seen in the first game, as he also has a completely different endoskeleton. His head appears to be much more exaggerated, with his side four begin much more pointy, his snout seemingly bigger, and a differently shaped jaw with a bigger chin. His red bandana, which is now desaturated, is a lot bigger than before, similarly to his shoulder and knee pads. Most of the tools he had on his belt appear to be missing, while his pocket knife is now being held. His forearm pads have also turned from a grayish color to a fully black color, similarly to his hat, belt, and the spot around his eyes, wich these also lack ligh reflections. His body has gone from a darker gray to a lighter gray, and the lighter white areas he used to have around the face and stomach are now gone. The costume for his last foot, tail, and hands are also gone, leaving the endoskeleton exposed. He has multiple holes through his body, although they are different from the ones he used to have. The bottom of his legs, right ear, half of his torso, and left side of his forehead have been ripped, leaving cyan and yellow wires coming out of these alongside the arms.

Trivia[]

  • His new endoskeleton, which is shared with the rest of the cast, is much more similar to the one the Withered Animatronics have in Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
  • While not fully confirmed, it is likely that his 3D model alongside the ones for the rest of the cast, excluding Rachel's, is lost media.
